BUENOS AIRES, Argentina — An Argentine court has sentenced a former army chief to life in prison for the 1977 kidnapping, torture and killing of four activists.

Luciano Benjamin Menendez, 81, was commander of the Third Army Corps in Cordoba for five years during Argentina’s 1976-83 military dictatorship. He has been under house arrest for previous “dirty war” convictions. Seven others were also convicted for the crimes.
