The 38-inch tiger muskie Denver resident Adam Howard caught at Quincy Reservoir isn’t particularly large for the breed. But it is increasingly rare at a place once renowned for producing monsters, including a 40-pounder in 1994.

Thing is, the Colorado Division of Wildlife no longer stocks tigers at Quincy to protect favored species such as trout and bass from the mean teeth.

“Tigers are on the way out,” biologist Paul Winkle said.

That didn’t keep Howard from nabbing his prize while fishing for bass from a float tube.
