DENVER—The Denver City Council has voted 10-1 to oppose a ballot measure that critics say is aimed at taking cars of illegal immigrants.
Colorado Alliance for Immigration Reform spokesman John Brick insists Initiative 100 is aimed at all drivers.
The measure would require police to impound cars of unlicensed drivers if voters approve it in November. Councilwoman Jeanne Faatz says unlicensed, uninsured drivers who get into accidents are a safety hazard.
But Councilman Paul Lopez says current law already prohibits driving without a license.
Lopez, the interfaith group We Believe Colorado and the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Denver on Monday urged a “no” vote on Initiative 100.
