Troopers said Tuesday that a 9-month-old boy survived a rollover crash that killed his parents because he was in a child-passenger seat.

Investigators initially believed the child had been unrestrained when the sport utility vehicle flipped over on Interstate 70 on Sunday in Lincoln County, the Colorado State Patrol said Tuesday evening.

While Travis B. Carroll Jr. survived, his parents — Travis B. Carroll, 21, and Heather L. Carroll, 19, of Wichita — died in the accident, which occurred near Genoa.
