The nation’s largest trash hauler said Tuesday that its second-quarter profit fell 6 percent from results that included tax benefits in the same quarter last year. Its earnings still beat analysts’ expectations.

Houston-based Waste Management earned $318 million, 64 cents a share, in the three months ended June 30, down from $338 million, 64 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue rose almost 4 percent to $3.49 billion.
