DENVER—For the second time this year, a jury considering a kickback charge against a former Jefferson County treasurer has deadlocked.

A judge declared a mistrial in the case against Mark Paschall on Thursday.

In February, another jury failed to reach a decision on whether Paschall was guilty of receiving compensation for past official behavior. They did acquit him of a theft charge.

Paschall was indicted last year after a former aide alleged that Paschall asked her to kickback part of bonus he had given her. Paschall denied he sought money from her.

District attorney Scott Story hasn’t decided whether to prosecute Paschall again.
