DENVER—Payroll records show Denver International Airport paid nearly $590,000 in overtime last year to clear snow from roads and parking lots, with more than $115,000 of that going to airport managers.
KMGH-TV in Denver reported Wednesday that one manager was paid overtime for snow removal on a day when there was no snow. The station says six managers were paid an average of $51 an hour for snow-removal overtime.
Ruth Rodriguez, manager of the snow-removal team, denies the overtime is a perk for management.
She says the team helps ensure safety and reliability, and that snow delays can cost air-transportation businesses $1 million an hour.
Clay Vigoda, director of government and community affairs, says the city auditor is investigating.
