COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—The El Paso County district attorney’s office says a sheriff’s deputy was justified in fatally shooting a man suspected of killing his two children in June.
A report from the DA’s office Friday says Scott Montgomery had advanced toward Deputy Alex Garcia with a knife in his hand.
The report says Garcia and another deputy were sent to check on the children at Montgomery’s home at the request of his estranged wife when they spotted 5-year-old Skyler and 1-year-old Canyon lying motionless inside.
The report says deputies then encountered a nude Montgomery, who ignored orders to drop his weapon.
Coroner’s officials have not said how the children died.
