EL PASO COUNTY — Firefighters battled a grass fire in eastern El Paso County that destroyed six buildings on Friday, including at least one home. The fire started at 1 p.m., apparently after a lightning strike, said Lari Savene, a spokeswoman for the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
It was 80 percent contained at 7:30 p.m. and officials said they expected to have it completely contained by 9:30 p.m., although wind gusts continued to sweep through the area.
It’s not clear how many acres the fire had consumed, but there were patches of fires scattered across an area of 10 square miles.
