A look at how Molson Coors Brewing Co. performed in its three biggest markets in the three-month period ending in June:
In the U.S.:
—Pre-tax income rose 14.8 percent to $112.7 million, on sales volume growth and higher pricing.
—Sales to retailers increased 5.1 percent.
—Coors Light was up in the mid-single digits, while Coors Banquet was up in the high single digits. Blue Moon and Keystone Light were up in the double digits.
—Net sales per barrel rose 3.8 percent, driven by higher prices.
—Cost of goods sold per barrel increased 4.9 percent on higher fuel and packaging costs.
In Canada:
—Pre-tax income rose 5.6 percent to $154.4 million on higher pricing and favorable foreign currency rates.
—Sales to retailers fell 0.8 percent.
—Coors Light was up in the mid-single digits, while Rickard’s, Creemore and Carling had double-digit growth.
—Net sales per barrel rose 4.2 percent, more than half of that due to price hikes.
—Cost of goods sold per barrel increased 1.4 percent on higher commodity and overhead costs.
In Britain:
—Pre-tax income dropped nearly 50 percent to $21.5 million on higher input and pension costs and lower volume.
—Sales volumes fell 2.6 percent, including a 9 percent drop in restaurants and pubs and a 6 percent increase at stores.
—Net sales per barrel rose 3.4 percent, driven by last year’s acquisition of a distribution business.
—Cost of goods sold per barrel was up 11.9 percent.
