ERIE, Colo.—Two people are hurt after a small plane crashed today near Erie Municipal Airport.

The crash sparked a small grass fire when the plane went down about 10 a.m.

Chief Randy Templeton of the Mountain View Fire Protection District says a 50-year-old man and his 16-year-old grandson were on the plane. The pilot had bumps and bruises, and Templeton says the teen likely suffered broken bones.

A flight plan indicates the plane was en route to Greeley. Templeton says the pilot had fueled up at Erie Air Park.

The vintage military airplane broke into pieces in a field west of the airport.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
