GREELEY, Colo.—A teenager accused in the death of a 7-year-old girl who police say was beaten in an imitation of a violent video game says he is innocent.

Lamar Roberts entered his plea Friday. The 17-year-old is charged in the death of Zoe Garcia, who he was baby-sitting along with girlfriend Heather Trujillo. Trujillo was Garcia’s half sister.

Trujillo pleaded guilty to child abuse-negligently causing death and has agreed to testify against Roberts at his January trial. Trujillo was sentenced to 18 years in prison but if she successfully completes six years in a Youthful Offender System program the rest of her sentence may be suspended.

Police say Garcia was kicked, hit, and slammed to the floor during an imitation of the “Mortal Kombat” video game.
