GOLDEN, Colo.—A former Jefferson County treasurer won’t face a third trial on a kickback-related charge after two previous trials ended with hung juries.

District attorney Scott Storey said Monday he decided against taking Mark Paschall (PASS’-kull) to trial again because 15 out of the 24 jurors in the previous trials voted to acquit him.

Paschall was charged with theft and receiving compensation for past official behavior after a former aide alleged he asked her to give him part of a bonus he had paid her.

In February, a jury acquitted him on the theft charge but couldn’t agree on the second charge. The second jury couldn’t agree on the second charge either.

Paschall was first elected in 2001 but was defeated in the 2006 primary when he sought re-election.
