PARACHUTE — The Super 8 motel in Parachute called authorities about an unwelcome guest this week.

But when authorities took the call Monday, they realized it was a job for animal control.

Garfield County sheriff’s Deputy Keith Clemons responded to the motel and found a 38-inch caiman.

The animal — a cousin to alligators — is believed to be a lost or released pet, said sheriff’s Deputy Tanny M. McGinnis in a news release.

The caiman now has a new home at the Vet Tech School on Spring Valley Campus in Carbondale. The Denver Post
