Wheat Ridge police believe they know what a burglar who has been preying on residents near the town’s greenbelt looks, and smells, like.
A woman confronted the man, who had broken down a door in her home, as he was loading some of her cash and jewelry into a shopping bag on Aug. 11.
The man is about 60, thin, and 5 foot 10 inches tall. “The suspect was wearing a dark t-shirt, blue jeans and had very offensive body odor. The victim believes, based on his appearance, the man could be homeless,” according to a release.
He threatened to hurt the woman if she interfered with him and left the home on a newer dark gray or black mountain bike with a pack on the handle bars, and a bright colored water bottle in a rack mounted to the frame.
The suspect was followed from the burglary into the Newgate Apartment Complex at 10400 West 44th Ave in Wheat Ridge. From there it is believed that he rode into the Wheat Ridge Greenbelt located on the Clear Creek Bike Path/Corridor in Jefferson County.
Other homes near the greenbelt have also been robbed in similar circumstances over the summer.
Wheat Ridge Police are asking for the public’s help in finding the suspect. Those with information should call 303.235.2947.
