DETROIT — A Detroit woman has pleaded guilty to setting a New Year’s Eve 1999 fire at Michigan State University in an act of eco-terrorism. Marie Mason, 46, and co-defendant Frank Ambrose, 33, were accused of starting a fire to protest research on genetically modified plants at the university’s Agriculture Hall. The fire caused more than $1 million in damage.
