The Avalanche will open its rookie camp today at the Family Sports Center in Englewood, with 27 players expected to hit the ice.
“This time of the year is exciting for everybody, including the athletes who have spent so much time training in preparation for the season,” said Avalanche vice president of hockey operations Craig Billington.
Among the players expected to attend are T.J. Hensick and David Jones, who played for the Avs last season.
Today’s session runs from 9:30-11:30 a.m. and is free to the public. The camp will run through Thursday, and on Friday the Avalanche’s main training camp will begin.
Cowboys induct six.
Former Arvada West High School football standout Brian Lee, who went on to All-America honors as a safety at Wyoming, was one of six individuals inducted into the Cowboys’ Hall of Fame.
The 16th class of University of Wyoming athletics Hall of Fame members also featured Thomas Garrison (track), Walker Jones Jr. (football), Geir Kvernmo (track and skiing), Dave Myers (wrestling), Steve Scifres (football) and the 1978-79 women’s basketball team.
Five tied in Denver City Amateur.
The 12th Denver City Amateur tournament at City Park Golf Course ended the first round with five players tied atop the leaderboard.
Danny Riskam, Henry Carmeron Bissell, Joe Schwark, Kenton Gamache and Pete Lis each finished at even-par 72. The two-round tournament will decide a champion today.
