The District Attorney’s Office in Colorado Springs has been asked to investigate a collision between a state trooper’s cruiser and another car that left a 63-year-old Fountain man dead this afternoon.
The El Paso County coroner’s office identified the man killed as Jonathan L. Priest.
The crash happened at U.S. 85 and Academy Boulevard near Fort Carson just after 5 p.m.
Priest, who was driving a Honda Accord sedan, died at the scene. The trooper, whose name has not been released, was taken to Memorial Central Hospital in Colorado Springs with non-life-threatening injuries.
The State Patrol is making no comments about the circumstances of the collision, said Trooper David Hall.
“Obviously because the collision involved one of our members, we’re not involved in the investigation,” Hall said.
He referred questions to Chief Deputy District Attorney Lin Billings, who could not be reached for comment this evening.
