DENVER—Federal prosecutors have asked a judge to extend an order staying depositions of four former Qwest executives in a civil lawsuit that alleges that actions of former Qwest CEO Joseph Nacchio and others allowed Qwest Communications International Inc. to improperly report revenue.

They said they requested the 90-day extension Wednesday so that Nacchio can’t use information obtained from depositions in the Securities and Exchange Commission civil suit in any criminal trials.

A three-judge panel of the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver has overturned Nacchio’s criminal insider trading conviction, but federal prosecutors asked the full court for a review. The court will hear arguments Sept. 25.

At least two defendants in the SEC lawsuit oppose federal prosecutors’ request.
