DENVER—Xcel Energy expects a 12 percent increase in the typical Colorado customer’s natural gas bill this winter over last winter, as natural gas prices fluctuate.

The home heating season is October through March. Xcel based its winter projections on its predictions for gas cost and use in December.

Xcel expects that typical residential customers would pay $151.71 in December, while typical small-business customers would pay $698.53.

Also Wednesday, Xcel proposed to the Colorado Public Utilities Commission a natural gas commodity price for October of 48.82 cents per therm, up 11 percent from this month.
