GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—A Littleton man has withdrawn his not guilty plea in connection with the death of his ex-girlfriend’s daughter in Grand Junction.
Thirty-two-year-old Charles McEachern had pleaded not guilty in July to felony child abuse resulting in death. It was unclear whether the former Grand Junction resident’s plea withdrawal meant a plea deal was in the works. His attorney, Marna Mel Lake, did not immediately return a phone message Thursday.
Authorities say McEachern was baby-sitting 3-year-old Miranda Baca in June 2006 while her mother, McEachern’s girlfriend at the time, was at work. Miranda was later taken to a hospital and died that day.
An autopsy indicated she died from blunt force trauma to the head.
McEachern is due in court Oct. 8.
