A Northwest passenger who allegedly said he had C-4 explosives in his carry-on Saturday afternoon has not been charged but may face further questioning, FBI spokeswoman Kathy Wright said.

The man complained of a medical issue while being interviewed by FBI agents and was sent to the hospital, she said.

It’s still unclear whether the traveler, who was not carrying explosives, was joking or intended the statement to be a threat, she said.

“Anytime there’s interference with a flight, it’s a federal violation,” Wright said. “So this could be a federal violation.”

The plane had just pushed back from the gate and was taxiing out when the man allegedly made his comment, Denver International Airport spokesman Chuck Cannon said.
