Rescuers in Boulder were able to locate a missing 75-year-old woman with dementia in less than an hour Thursday evening using Colorado Life Trak antennas and signal receivers, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said.

The woman walked away from her home and was last seen by her husband at about 4 p.m.

The husband searched some of his neighbors’ properties where she had gone in the past but was unable to locate her, said Clay Leak, a Boulder sheriff’s deputy.

Rescuers from Boulder County Emergency Services, the Boulder Emergency Squad, Louisville Fire & Ambulance and deputies from the Sheriff’s Office began a search of the area in the 10900 block of Maple Road after being called by the husband.

The Boulder Emergency Squad, using Life Trak, found the woman within 10 minutes.

She was checked by the medical staff of Louisville Fire & Ambulance and did not require hospitalization.

Leak said Colorado Life Trak is the program formerly known as Project Life Saver.

Colorado Life Trak is a radio-transmission system used by several Colorado counties and nationwide that is designed to assist law-enforcement and rescue agencies in locating children or adults who have a propensity to wander from their homes and who may get lost, such as those with Alzheimer’s disease, autism, dementia, or other disorders.

The transmitter is a small circular radio device on a wristband, about the size of a wrist watch. The transmitters and wristbands are worn 24 hours a day and are difficult to remove.
