OMAHA, Neb.—The union representing workers at a Nebraska meatpacking plant involved in a prayer dispute has filed 81 grievances on behalf of employees terminated earlier this month.
A union official says filing grievances will let workers complain later if they feel JBS Swift and Company fired them without cause. The union will investigate before deciding which cases to pursue.
Company officials now say about 80 workers were terminated this month in Grand Island after repeatedly leaving work without authorization.
The firings came on the heels of repeated walkouts over a prayer dispute.
