A man faces homicide charges after an autopsy revealed that a 4-year-old Widefield girl had severe internal injuries, including a lacerated liver, authorities say.
Tristan Dedre Price, 23, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of his girlfriend’s daughter, Tamyrill Randall, said Lori Sevene, spokeswoman for the El Paso County Sheriff’s Department.
El Paso deputies were called to Price’s home Friday morning. Tamyrill was pronounced dead by 11:30 a.m., Sevene said.
She said that based on the autopsy report, the severe internal injuries the child received were clearly the result of abuse.
“It’s tragic,” Sevene said. “The injuries she received are severe and unnatural. A lacerated liver is not a common injury. It’s something you would expect in a car crash.”
On Friday morning, Price told authorities that he tried but failed to wake the girl. When he was unable to revive her, he called 911, Sevene said.
Price also was charged with misdemeanor assault in connection with an incident on April 15, according to Colorado Bureau of Investigation records.
Sevene said a previous allegation of abuse involving the girl was investigated thoroughly by the Sheriff’s Department but did not result in charges.
“They didn’t have enough evidence,” Sevene said, referring to the district attorney’s office, which declined to comment.
