COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—El Paso County coroner’s officials say a woman who fell into a chest freezer and died before a friend found her was likely in the freezer for less than 24 hours.

Police say a friend found the woman Saturday and called for help. Police do not suspect foul play.

Sandy Way, an office administrator for the coroner’s office, said Monday that the woman died of positional asphyxiation, meaning her body was in a position that prevented her from breathing.

Way says the woman’s rear end was in the freezer, with both her feet and head raised.

The woman’s identity wasn’t immediately released because her family had not yet been notified.
