SAN RAMON, Calif. — Chevron, the second-biggest U.S. energy company, said it expects third-quarter earnings to exceed the $5.98 billion it earned in the second quarter as its oil and natural- gas output heads for an eighth straight quarterly decline.
Chevron, which is scheduled to report complete third- quarter results Oct. 31, said it pumped the equivalent of 2.46 million barrels of crude a day in July and August, compared with 2.59 million barrels during the third quarter of 2007.
