The Colorado chapter of the American Institute of Architects annually pays tribute to the best designs from its more than 2,400 members statewide.
This year, a jury of four architects from Texas chose 16 winning projects from among 170 submissions — more than twice as many as were expected.
The jury head, Gregory Papay, a partner with Lake/Flato Architects in San Antonio, said he heard that Colorado architecture has been getting stronger over the past decade, and the entries confirmed that.
“It certainly has a ways to go,” he said. “That’s the nature of a juror. Our job is to be critical of the work, but we were very pleased that we had a large group of projects to choose from (after an initial cut) that all were worthy to be award-winners.”
On this page, The Denver Post showcases five of the top winners with comments from Papay. The entire list of winners can be found at .
