KIMBALL, Neb. — A 20-year-old Kimball man has pleaded no contest to motor vehicle homicide for a crash that killed one of his passengers.

Kyle Anderson had been scheduled to go to trial in December.

Instead, he’s pleaded no contest to a felony count of motor vehicle homicide involving reckless driving. Charges of tampering with a witness and criminal contempt of court were dropped.

Anderson faces up to five years in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 2 in Kimball County District Court.

The Kimball County Sheriff’s Office has said Anderson was the driver of a car that crashed May 24 northeast of Kimball, killing 22-year-old Josh Cooley of Pine Bluffs, Wyo.

Investigators have said that speed and alcohol may have contributed to the crash.
