ARLINGTON, Va. — Alexander Ovechkin will miss at least one game while in Russia to spend time with his ailing grandfather.
The NHL’s reigning MVP caught a flight home Monday morning and will sit out the Capitals’ game against the visiting Nashville Predators tonight after appearing in 203 consecutive games. The Capitals were not sure when Ovechkin would return to the team.
“I’m sure we’ll know more as the week goes on,” coach Bruce Boudreau said.
Footnotes.
Islanders goalie Rick DiPietro sat out against the Rangers because of an undisclosed lower body injury the team said is unrelated to previous ailments.
• Canucks forward Rick Rypien has a sports hernia that will require surgery and is out indefinitely.
