A 19-year-old man has been arrested for investigation of homicide in the death of a woman who was beaten to death, then placed in a barrel downtown.
Ahmad Elijaah Clewis-Green is being held in the Denver City Jail pending formal first degree murder charges, said Sonny Jackson, Denver police spokesman.
Police identified Clewis-Green as a suspect on Wednesday, a day after the body of a 27-year-old Hispanic female was found in an alley in the 2200 block between Arapahoe and Lawrence streets.
Prosecutors from Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey’s office will decide whether to file formal charges in the case.
The name of the victim has not been released pending confirmation of her identity by the Denver coroner’s office and notification of her family.
The coroner’s office on Wednesday indicated the woman suffered fatal head injures.
