A 55-year-old Aurora man has pleaded guilty to tax evasion for failing to report fraudulently obtained money as income, according to court documents.

Michael Ewing will be sentenced Jan. 29 in federal court. He faces up to 60 months in prison and a $250,000 fine, according to sentencing guidelines.

Beginning in 2001, Ewing engaged in a practice of submitting “false, fraudulent, and fictitious check requests and expense reports seeking reimbursement” from his employer Graebel Companies, according to a plea agreement between Ewing and federal prosecutors.

Ewing used the ill-gained money on “numerous personal items, including clothing, gifts, Green Bay Packers memorabilia and travel,” according to the plea agreement.

Between 2001 and 2005 Ewing received about $800,000 in fraudulent check requests and expense reports from Graebel, according to court documents.

Ewing owes about $257,000 in back taxes over the same time period, according to the plea agreement.
