The Mesa County coroner’s office determined that a man found dead in a burned-out Dumpster died of smoke inhalation.
The man’s charred body was discovered just after midnight this morning after Grand Junction firefighters put out a Dumpster fire in an alley behind 529 Pitkin Ave. in downtown Grand Junction.
The fire crews were returning from a stabbing call when they saw the flames coming out of the trash bin, said Grand Junction Battalion Chief Glenn Crespin.
They put the fire out quickly, Crespin said.
“They were moving embers around and discovered the body,” he said.
The coroner’s office determined that the fire was accidental.
