A 6-month-old Pueblo girl who was riddled with shotgun pellets and suffered life-threatening injuries in a drive-by shooting on Oct. 30 has been released from the hospital.
According to family members, the baby is home with her parents and is doing well, said Sgt. Eric Bravo, spokesman for the Pueblo Police Department.
A total of four people, including the child, were hit by dozens of pellets from the shotgun blast.
A 17-year-old boy standing on the front porch of a home in the 800 block of East Fifth Street received the brunt of the blast, being hit by more than 60 pellets. The boy’s name was not released because of his age.
Anthony Loudy, 20, the father of the 6-month-old girl, was hit by more than 25 pellets as he stood on the porch, according to Bravo.
Bravo said the shotgun blast went through the open front door of the home, striking the child and Christine Rodriguez, 20, who were sitting on the floor of the living room.
The baby was hit by 14 pellets in the back, neck and back of the head.
Because of her life-threatening injuries, the baby was flown to Colorado Springs, where she was treated at Memorial Hospital.
The three other people were treated and released.
Bravo said the shooting was believed to be gang-related.
He said today that no arrests have been made and that detectives are still investigating.
According to witnesses, a car, which was occupied by two adult males and a young boy, pulled up to the residence, and words were exchanged between the people on the porch and those in the car.
The car then drove away, but made a U-turn and came back.
Bravo said witnesses said words were again exchanged and then the gunfire erupted.
Bravo said that within 60 minutes of the incident, someone using a shotgun turned it on two cars 10 and 12 blocks away from the Loudy home.
Officials are investigating a possible connection.
