DENVER—A woman accused of helping her husband and another woman scam the state of $11.1 million has pleaded guilty to theft.

Trudy Randell faces probation, a suspended sentence and $1 million in restitution as part of a plea deal.

The 38-year-old entered a plea Thursday. She’s accused of helping create bank accounts for the alleged scheme.

Prosecutors say Michelle Cawthra, a former Department of Revenue supervisor, and Hysear Randell, Trudy Randell’s husband, diverted tax refunds to businesses and accounts he controlled.

Cawthra pleaded guilty to racketeering and will be sentenced in February. Hysear Randell is scheduled to go on trial in January on charges including forgery and embezzlement.

Prosecutors say he and Cawthra had an intimate relationship.
