GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—A Western Slope theater showing independent films seven days a week will roll the credits for the last time next week.
Cinema at the Avalon in Grand Junction will cease operations after the second showing of “Bottle Shock” on Nov. 13.
A message on the cinema’s Web site announces the decision, thanking supporters for “5 great years.”
An e-mailed newsletter obtained by The Daily Sentinel newspaper says the cinema’s board of directors looked into the possibility of showing movies on a monthly basis, but could not make the idea work.
Board president Stephan Schweissing told the Sentinel last month that the nonprofit group operating the cinema had been hampered by the recent opening of a 14-screen theater and a slowdown in the independent film industry.
