BOULDER, Colo.—A nurse who was fired by a Boulder hospital has been arrested on charges of stealing a painkiller intended for patients undergoing surgery and replacing it with saline solution.
Authorities say up to 350 Boulder Community Hospital patients may have been affected. They’re still determining the exact number.
Authorities say some might have been in more discomfort but none were in pain.
Ashton Paul Daigle of Lafayette was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of tampering with a consumer product and creating a counterfeit controlled substance. Federal prosecutors say the 27-year-old Daigle could face other charges if any patients were injured or died because of the alleged thefts.
A message left on Daigle’s home phone wasn’t immediately returned.
