DURANGO — Power was restored Saturday to hundreds of homes in southwestern Colorado after wet, heavy snow caused power lines to droop and then slingshot upward.
The bouncing wires coming into contact with surrounding objects caused lights to flicker or power to be automatically cut. Hundreds of homes in small pockets in La Plata and Archuleta counties lost power Friday and Saturday.
The power was restored to most homes by noon Saturday. La Plata Electric Association spokeswoman Indiana Reed said that at the height of the outages, about 1,500 homes had lost power.
