The winner: Brandon Wilkins, Salida: Salida! What a place to visit, with the multi-colored bison in front of Spirit Mountain Antler and Log Design. My family always enjoys looking at the great copper work, including the cow perched on top of the business. I tell the kids that the cow jumped over the moon and landed on the building. Also, look for the alligator attached to the side of the building. ‘Did it really just move, Dad?’ is what I hear from my kids. A copper zoo right in the middle of Salida, even with a giraffe, too!
Sallie Kennett, Salida: This colorful fellow with his eclectic herd of sculptured metal comrades along the sidewalk and in the parking area of Spirit Mountain Antler and Log Design are among the unique offerings available from this custom design business. All along First Street and throughout our pedestrian-friendly community, visitors and residents can enjoy a wide variety of shops, restaurants and coffee stops. While the rainbow buffalo is a traffic stopper, the cow on the roof really gets some looks!
Suzi and Paige Mishmash, Salida: This rainbow colored metal bison is in front of Spirit Mountain Antler and Log Design. My daughter and I walk past this several days a week on our way to the preschool across the street. Of the bison, my 4-year-old daughter says, ‘It’s a sculpture, right?’ She and her sister both prefer the bigger than life-sized horse sculpture, which sits on the corner in the metal menagerie that Spirit Mountain displays there.
Jasmine Balzano, Salida: I moved from Salida to Winnemucca, Nev., quite a few years back. When I (returned) to Salida, this bison was the first thing I saw when I rolled into town. Driving down First Street, you see this colorful little bison, art galleries, 12-foot-tall flowers, and a cow on the roof of Spirit Mountain Antler and Log Design.
Reed Peuser, Salida: After a morning walk on the nearby Rainbow Trail, this Bison returned to bathe in the afternoon sun outside the Spirit Mountain gallery on First Street. He is joined by his friends, including a giraffe and the cow on the gallery’s roof.
Arlene Petitto, Salida: This wonderful colorful sculpture is right outside the Spirit Mountain Antler and Log Design. The reason I know is that I live and work in Salida, and pass this sculpture every day, going to and from work. I envision it in my front yard, much like you’re put flamingos. Though I know my neighbors would kick up a fuss, I would think that having a buffalo, and a colorful one to boot, instead of flamingos is a much better choice, and certainly depicts the western flair of Colorado.
