DENVER—Rhett Rakhshani scored two goals and Mark Cheverie made 38 saves as Denver defeated Air Force 4-1, handing the Falcons their first loss of the season Saturday night.
Rakhshani scored a power-play goal in the second period with Falcons goaltender Andrew Volkening down on the ice to give Denver (9-5-1) a 1-0 lead.
Scott Mathis scored at 2:31 of the third period to tie it for Air Force (13-1), but 30 seconds later, Kyle Ostrow scored the game winner off a rebound during a flurry of shots in front of the net.
Rakhshani’s second goal came at 6:22 of the third period. He batted down a pass from Tyler Bozak at waist level into the net to give the Pioneers a 3-1 lead. Brandon Vossberg added an empty netter at 18:12 of the third period for Denver.
Volkening finished with 25 saves.
