LANDOVER, Md. — Giants receiver Plaxico Burress plans to turn himself in to police this morning in New York City and plead not guilty to criminal possession of a weapon, his lawyer said.

Benjamin Brafman said he was advised Burress will be charged after accidentally shooting himself in the right thigh.

“I would ask that his fans, the Giants and the media withhold judgment in this matter until all of the facts have been disclosed,” Brafman said.

Burress shot himself at a Manhattan nightclub Friday night and was released from a hospital early Saturday, the Giants said.

“As far as we know, he’s going to be OK,” general manager Jerry Reese said Sunday before the Super Bowl champions’ 23-7 victory over the Redskins.

Possible blow to Browns

CLEVELAND — The Browns may have lost quarterback Derek Anderson and tight end Kellen Winslow for an extended period.

Anderson, starting in place of the injured Brady Quinn, hurt his left leg in the final two minutes against the Colts. He was dropping back to pass when offensive tackle Kevin Shaffer fell on him while being knocked backward by a charging Mathis. Anderson had to be helped to the sideline. Winslow went out on the first play of the third quarter with an ankle injury and didn’t return.

Edwards’ status up in air

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — The pain in Trent Edwards’ sore groin grew worse with each step he took, forcing the Bills starter to the sideline midway through a loss to the 49ers.

And it’s unclear whether Edwards will be healthy in time to play next weekend when Buffalo hosts the Dolphins in Toronto.

Footnotes

Patriots receiver Wes Welker did not return after being leveled in the third quarter by the Steelers’ Ryan Clark. The Patriots did not announce the nature or severity of Welker’s injury. He finished with four catches for 30 yards, ending his NFL-record streak of 11 games with at least six receptions to start a season.

• Bears starting defensive tackle Dusty Dvoracek suffered what coach Lovie Smith called a “serious” arm injury against the Vikings. The injury came a week after starting cornerback Nathan Vasher was lost for the season because of a broken hand.
