DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Michelle Wie saved par on three of her last four holes for a 4-under-par 68 that left her in second place behind Stacy Lewis at the LPGA Tour qualifying tournament and one round away from a full-time job.

Wie has a 274 total after four rounds and will play in the final group today with Lewis (67) and Amy Yang (67). The top 20 players earn their LPGA Tour cards for the 2009 season, and the 19-year- old Wie was nine shots clear of the cutoff.

Harrison Frazar shot a 59 in the fourth round and took a four-shot lead at the PGA Tour qualifying tournament in La Quinta, Calif.

Larry and Drew Nelson shot an 11-under 61 to share the lead with Tom and David Kite in the Father-Son Championship in Orlando, Fla.

Henrik Stenson of Sweden fired a 7-under 65 to extend his lead to eight shots after the third round of the Nedbank Golf Challenge in Sun City, South Africa.

• Australia’s Mathew Goggin birdied the final hole for a 3-under 69 and a one-stroke lead after the third round of the Australian PGA in Coolum.

A-Rod will play for Dominicans

PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic — New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez will play for the Dominican Republic in the 2009 World Baseball Classic.

Rodriguez played for the U.S. in the 2006 inaugural Classic and was largely criticized by fans across Latin America. Rodriguez’s parents are from the Dominican Republic, and although he was born in the U.S., he is allowed to choose the country he will play for.

Lange wins bobsled race

ALTENBERG, Germany — Two-time world and Olympic champion Andre Lange of Germany won his 40th World Cup bobsled race in two-man competition.

Lange and Kevin Kuske had a combined time of 1 minute, 52.60 seconds over two runs, earning their first win of the season by edging Americans Steven Holcomb and Justin Olsen by 0.25 seconds.

Magnus Moan of Norway won a World Cup nordic combined event on his home trails in Trondheim, Norway, while Bill Demong of the U.S. finished fourth.

• Austrian Gregor Schlierenzauer broke the hill record with a jump of 140 meters in the first round and held on to win the World Cup ski jumping meet in Trondheim.

Petter Northug of Norway won the 30-kilometer freestyle World Cup cross country race in La Clusaz, France, edging Dario Cologna of Switzerland by 0.3 seconds. Kristin Stoermer Steira of Norway won the women’s 15-K freestyle.

Emil Hegle Svendsen of Norway and Wang Chunli of China won season-opening World Cup biathlon sprint events in Ostersund, Sweden.

Christian Oberstolz and Patrick Gruber of Italy won the men’s doubles and Germany’s Tatjana Hufner took the women’s singles at a World Cup luge meet in Sigulda, Latvia.
