A cold front is expected to bring heavy snow in the western and central mountains of Colorado tonight and a strong chance of snow in the metro region by morning, according to the National Weather Service office in Boulder.
Most of the Front Range has a 70 percent chance of snowfall overnight, with an accumulation of about an inch.
The heaviest lower-altitude accumulations, up to about 3 inches, is expected south of the metro region, according to forecasters. Travel advisories are in effect west and east of the metro region tonight.
Monday night, Denver and its suburbs have a 70 percent chance of snow, with accumulations up to four nches Monday night, according to the forecast.
The mountains are expected to receive up to a foot of new snow by late Tuesday morning. Forecasters in Grand Junction have issued a winter weather advisory until noon Tuesday.
The metro region has a 20 percent chance of snow Tuesday morning, but skies are expected to clear in the afternoon. The high Tuesday is expected to be only 32 degrees, according to the latest forecast.
Temperatures could warm in the mid-40s Wednesday and Thursday, before a slight chance of snow returns to the forecast Thursday night and lingers through the weekend, forecasters said.
