A 48-year-old guard was shot and killed late Friday night at a popular country entertainment bar during a confrontation with three suspicious men, authorities say.
Timothy Minnick of Brighton was pronounced dead after three suspects opened fire on a group of guards at the Grizzly Rose, 5450 Valley Highway, said Candi Baker, spokeswoman for the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s deputies were called to the bar at 10:50 p.m., following the shooting in the parking lot.
Several security guards went to speak with three suspects in the east parking area behind The Grizzly Rose, dressed in hoodies and wearing bandanas over the lower half of their faces. One of the suspects was wearing a baseball cap.
One of the suspects drew a pistol and began firing several rounds at the security guards. After he was shot, Minnick was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The suspects were last seen running southbound from the scene where they got into a mid-90s white or silver sport utility vehicle, possibly a GMC Jimmy or Chevrolet Blazer, Baker said.
The vehicle has a luggage rack and chrome or a light- blue kick panel, she said. It also has tinted back windows but the driver’s window did not appear tinted. A female was seen in the suspect’s vehicle, and she is described as being heavy-set with long hair past her shoulders, Baker said.
The male suspects were all described as being Latino males, in their late teens to early 20s, with slender builds and between 5-foot-4 and 5-foot-7 tall, she said.
“We are truly one of the last great honky tonks in the world,” the nightclub’s website says.
The Grizzly Rose has featured Garth Brooks, Chris Ledeux, Willie Nelson, Faith Hill, Taylor Swift, Chris Cagle, Waylon Jennings and Toby Keith.
