WHEAT RIDGE — After 40 years, drivers going east on Interstate 70 finally can get onto westbound Colorado 58.

Officials from the Colorado Department of Transportation, Jefferson County and Wheat Ridge celebrated completion of the I-70/Colorado 58 interchange project during a Friday morning ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The interchange was built in 1968 without ramps from eastbound I-70 to westbound Colorado 58 and from eastbound Colorado 58 to westbound I-70.

A $33 million project began in February 2007.

Wheat Ridge officials expect to see reduced traffic on local streets.
