DENVER—Authorities say an envelope containing white powder and a threatening letter prompted a brief lockdown at a police office in a Denver shopping center.
A woman brought the envelope into the police Cop Shop at the Bear Valley Shopping Center shortly before 4 p.m. Tuesday. Denver Fire Department spokesman Alex Paez says hazardous material crews responded and quickly determined the powder wasn’t toxic.
Walt Brewer, who volunteers at the Cop Shop, says the woman was involved in a property dispute and the letter may have been related to the dispute. He says she was upset over the threats in the letter.
Denver operates nine Cop Shop offices, where trained police volunteers help people with non-urgent tasks, such as filing reports on fender-benders and zoning violations.
