KIOWA, Colo.—State wildlife officials are trying to track down a deer that has a hunter’s arrow lodged in its nose and jaw.

Division of Wildlife spokeswoman Jennifer Churchill said Wednesday that officers were looking for the deer to tranquilize it and remove the arrow.

Marilyn Thornbery told wildlife officials about the animal after spotting it on her three-acre property in western Elbert County, about 30 miles southeast of Denver. She told them it looked like the arrow with orange and green feathers was stuck in the deer’s face but that the animal seemed to be moving fine.

Churchill says when large animals are tranquilized, there’s a risk the shock could kill them.

She says it’s possible that officers will never find the deer.
