CORTEZ, Colo.—Authorities say counterfeit dollar bills are circulating around Montezuma County with the latest case happening at a casino.
Montezuma County Sheriff spokesman Lt. Ted Meador warns that people should be careful not to be fooled because the bills look “pretty realistic.”
He says in the latest incident, deputies were called to the Ute Mountain Casino in Towaoc in early December. He says the $20 bills all had the same serial number.
The Cortez Police Department also is investigating cases over the summer where fake $20 bills were used at a Wal-Mart and the Citizens State Bank.
Meador says counterfeit $20 bills are a lighter shade of green.
