Human rights activist Roz Duman and Gov. Bill Ritter will receive awards from the Anti-Defamation League later this month, the organization said today.
“Roz Duman and Gov. Ritter have spent their careers working for civil rights and human understanding,” ADL Colorado regional director Bruce H. DeBoskey said in a statement.
Duman coordinates the Colorado Coalition for Genocide Awareness and Action, which she founded in 2006. The coalition sponsors conferences and exhibits on genocide around the world, according to the league.
She also has worked on behalf of Jews leaving the former Soviet Union, as well as serving on Colorado’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Commission, the Denver Sister Cities Program and the Holocaust Awareness Institute.
Ritter pushed for the expansion and enforcement of hate crime laws as Denver’s district attorney for 12 years. As governor, since 2006, he has supported expansions of laws to include sexual orientation in the areas of employment nondiscrimination, public accommodations and housing, the ADL said.
The awards, given to civil rights leaders annually since 1982, will be presented at a luncheon Jan. 27. For information, call 303-830-7177, ext. 210.
