GOLDEN, Colo.—An arraignment hearing for a Lakewood woman accused of tying up her dog and setting him on top of a hot stove has been continued until next month.
Thirty-eight-year-old Tanya Martin appeared in a Jefferson County courtroom Monday morning, but her arraignment was postponed until Feb. 17.
The reason for the delay wasn’t immediately clear.
Prosecutors say Martin put the 6-year-old Yorkshire terrier on top of a burning telephone book on a lit stove burner in October.
The dog, named Bobo, died a few days later.
Jefferson County District Attorney Scott Storey charged Martin with felony counts of fourth-degree arson and aggravated animal cruelty within hours after the dog’s death.
Martin’s uncle, Leo Cordova, has said she suffers from mental illness.
